Established in 1991, AMAN "brings together very different agencies which have not only the Mediterranean in common but also a rich history of relations. This creates the opportunity to share content, know-how and experience," said STA director Igor Kadunc.

The STA decided to join the alliance at the invitation of several members, said Kadunc, adding that connections and cooperation were the prerequisites for news agencies delivering a high quality of service.

The alliance has 19 members and aims to strengthen dialogue and cooperation among news agencies in Mediterranean countries.

Established in 1991, the STA has been a member of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) since 1992. In 2013 it joined the International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC) and it holds the status of an observer in the Association of the Balkan News Agencies - Southeast Europe (ABNA-SE).
