STA acquires The Slovenia Times portal

Ljubljana, 9 November - The Slovenian Press Agency will merge its existing English portal InsideSlovenia.si with The Slovenia Times this month, having acquired the portal and the brand from its current publisher under an agreement signed on Wednesday. The merger will create a strong and high-quality website specialised in covering Slovenia in the English language.

Aside from daily news about Slovenia, The Slovenia Times will provide other types of content of interest to English-speaking audiences. Access will remain free of charge and the STA plans to redesign the website in the coming months and boost The Slovenia Times's social media presence.

The STA's desire is to expand its portfolio of English content while creating opportunities for new revenue streams, which will in turn contribute to better overall coverage of events in Slovenia for foreign audiences.

"Slovenia must strive to be as active and visible as possible in order to secure its place in Europe. News portals which provide information about events in Slovenia in the English language are an important contribution to that," Igor Kadunc, director general of the STA, said at the signing of the agreement.

"The STA has decided to build on its English news wire by merging InsideSlovenia into The Slovenia Times, which we acquired under an agreement signed today with The Slovenia Times publisher Domus. We are confident that having this established brand will allow us to better fulfil our core mission," he added.

The Slovenia Times founder and publisher Brane Krajnik will remain on board as an external collaborator. We are confident he will contribute significantly to the success of the project, both in terms of content and marketing success, with his wealth of experience in content production and organisation.
