STA's head of development declared Name of the Week
Ljubljana, 3 August - Aljoša Rehar, head of the digital strategy team of the Slovenian Press Agency (STA), has been declared the Name of the Week by the public radio station Val 202 for his contribution in developing an advanced article-tracking tool which recently made the European Commission's list of the best European innovations.
As part of the Horizon 2020 research project Renoir, the STA has developed a solution for tracking of articles in cooperation with international partners.
The prototype has since been upgraded into an independently operating web application, called NewsMapper.
The application leverages artificial intelligence and provides a series of functionalities, including tracking the use of articles on the internet and early detection of new topical stories, both in near real time.
It recently made the list of the best innovations on the Innovation Radar platform, a European Commission initiative to identify high potential innovations and innovators in EU-funded research and innovation programmes.
Commenting on the news, Rehar said he would like to extend the accolade to the entire development team, while STA editor-in-chief Barbara Štrukelj said she was proud of the success.
"NewsMapper is a result of zealous work and an excellent idea, and for the STA it is also a confirmation of the strategic decision several years ago to develop technological solutions for the media," she added.
Rehar is now in competition for the Name of the Month title, whose winners are the finalists of the traditional Name of the Year award by Val 2020, declared every December.
