STA launches fact-checking portal

Ljubljana, 6 May - The STA has launched a fact-checking portal in the run-up to the elections to the European Parliament in a bid to verify the accuracy of statements and shed light on the functioning and powers of the EU and its institutions.

Called NE/JA, a play on the Slovenian words for No and Yes, the portal has a rapidly growing selection of content across three categories: classic fact-checking of statements, campaign talking points and viral social media content, busting of myths about the EU, and educational content on less known aspects of the EU, complete with interesting facts about the bloc.

While the focus is on in-house content, the portal has a broader role as a one-stop-shop for all fact checking efforts in Slovenia during the election campaign, with links to fact-checks conducted by other media.

The focus will be on the election campaign, but the STA intends to extend fact-checking beyond election day and plans are afoot to leverage know-how to put in place permanent infrastructure providing ongoing fact-checking efforts.

The project is co-funded by the European Commission.
